“Boston Blue” Season 2 Opens the Door for More Reagan Family Returns and New Surprises
The early renewal of “Boston Blue” for Season 2 has created endless possibilities for fans of the Blue Bloods universe. With the spinoff already expanding the Reagan family story and teasing the arrival of new characters, viewers are now wondering which familiar faces could eventually make their way to Boston.
The second half of Season 1 is expected to introduce previously unseen members of the Reagan family, while producers have also hinted that more beloved characters from the original series could appear.
The series follows Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) as he begins a new chapter in Boston alongside Detective Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green). Their families become connected through Danny’s son Sean (Mika Amonsen) and Lena’s brother Jonah (Marcus Scribner), both of whom are starting their careers as rookie police officers.
Danny’s decision to leave the NYPD and remain in Boston has created major changes in his personal life, especially regarding his relationship with former partner and longtime love interest Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez). While Baez has visited Boston, she has made it clear that leaving New York behind with her daughter Elena is not something she is ready to do, leaving the future of their relationship uncertain.
With Season 2 officially moving forward, fans could see that storyline develop further, while also exploring whether other Blue Bloods characters could follow Danny’s path and become part of the Boston world.
Executive producer Brandon Sonnier revealed that fans can expect familiar faces when Season 1 returns, including Erin Reagan-Boyle (Bridget Moynahan) and Baez.
“We can tell you that Erin will not be the only one, but that’s all we’re allowed to say,” Sonnier teased.
Meanwhile, executive producer Brandon Margolis confirmed that viewers will also meet additional members of the Silver family, expanding the show’s universe even further.
“There are new characters that will show up,” Margolis said. “We will meet more members of the Silver family, and we will see members of the Reagan family we have not yet seen.”
According to Sonnier, the upcoming episodes will focus on how these families adjust to their changing circumstances.
“Now that the groundwork has been laid, the second half of this season is an exciting exploration of how these relationships grow,” he explained.
Although fans continue to hope for a return from Tom Selleck as Frank Reagan, producers have indicated that such an appearance is unlikely at this time. The same applies to Henry Reagan (Len Cariou), whose storyline makes a major move to Boston less likely.
Still, several Reagan family members and longtime friends remain possible candidates to appear as recurring characters—or even join the cast permanently.
As Boston Blue continues to build its own identity, one major question remains:
Which familiar face from the Reagan family would you most like to see make the move to Boston?
