The Wait Is Almost Over: CBS Reveals the Official Premiere Date for Blue Bloods Season 15

Henry Reagan Heads to Boston as Len Cariou Joins Boston Blue

The Reagan family is expanding its presence in Boston.

CBS has released the midseason trailer for Boston Blue, offering fans their first look at Blue Bloods veteran Len Cariou reprising his beloved role as retired NYPD Commissioner Henry Reagan. The brief preview marks Henry’s first appearance in the new spin-off series alongside Donnie Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan.

In one of the trailer’s standout moments, Henry joins Danny, Detective Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), and District Attorney Mae Silver (Gloria Reuben) during what appears to be a case discussion, asking, “So, what do we got?” His cameo signals another meaningful connection between the original series and its successor.

The new footage also teases an action-packed return following the show’s dramatic midseason finale. Explosions, tense gunfire, and emotionally charged moments fill the preview, including a heartfelt exchange between Lena and her younger brother, rookie officer Jonah Silver (Marcus Scribner). Encouraging him as he begins his career, Lena reminds Jonah that wearing the badge means belonging to something much larger than themselves.

Wahlberg first revealed Cariou’s return during a Television Critics Association panel, where he also confirmed that Bridget Moynahan will once again appear as Erin Reagan. Shortly afterward, CBS confirmed the casting news. Cariou portrayed Henry Reagan throughout all 14 seasons of Blue Bloods, making him one of the franchise’s longest-running cast members.

Premiering in October, Boston Blue follows Danny Reagan as he relocates to Boston to be closer to his son Sean, who has joined the Boston Police Department as a rookie officer. As Danny adjusts to his new surroundings, he forms close ties with the Silver family, another law enforcement dynasty that mirrors the close-knit Reagan family dynamic.

The spin-off has already welcomed several familiar faces from Blue Bloods. In addition to Moynahan, Marisa Ramirez has returned as Detective Maria Baez, Danny’s longtime partner and close friend.

Although Blue Bloods concluded its 14-season run in December 2024 after more than a decade on CBS, its legacy continues through Boston Blue. The new series also introduces Mika Amonsen as the new Sean Reagan, taking over the role previously played by Andrew Terraciano.

One familiar face remains absent, however. Tom Selleck, who portrayed Commissioner Frank Reagan throughout the original series, has not joined the spin-off. Speaking last year, Selleck said he was uncertain about appearing in Boston Blue, explaining that he views it as a separate show and believes Frank Reagan’s story may have reached its natural conclusion.
