The end of Blue Bloods marked the close of one of CBS’s longest-running dramas, but its cast has wasted no time moving on to exciting new opportunities both on and off screen.
Debuting in 2010, the police procedural centered on the Reagan family, whose members dedicated their lives to law enforcement in New York City. Led by Police Commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck), the family included his father, Henry (Len Cariou), daughter Erin (Bridget Moynahan), and sons Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) and Jamie (Will Estes). Over 14 seasons, the series became a Friday-night favorite and built a loyal fan following.
Tom Selleck openly expressed his disappointment over the show’s cancellation, saying he believed the drama still had plenty of life left. In an interview following the announcement, he noted that Blue Bloods consistently delivered strong ratings and questioned why such a reliable performer was coming to an end. Selleck also admitted that adjusting to life after the series has been difficult, recalling how strange it felt when filming wrapped and there was no return to set the following week.
Although the flagship series concluded in December 2024, the franchise quickly continued with Boston Blue. CBS ordered the spinoff straight to series, with Donnie Wahlberg returning as Danny Reagan, who begins a new chapter of his career with the Boston Police Department.
Many former cast members have expressed interest in reprising their Blue Bloods roles through guest appearances, while also taking on new projects across television and film.
Donnie Wahlberg
Wahlberg is leading the next chapter of the franchise by returning as Danny Reagan in Boston Blue. Beyond acting, he has continued expanding his work as a television host. After fronting Investigation Discovery’s Very Scary People for six seasons, he teamed up with his wife, Jenny McCarthy, for the true-crime series Very Scary Lovers.
Long before joining the Reagan family, Wahlberg earned acclaim for standout performances in HBO’s Band of Brothers and his memorable role in the Saw film franchise.
Bridget Moynahan
Following her final season as Assistant District Attorney Erin Reagan, Bridget Moynahan has continued adding impressive credits to her résumé. She received the JFK National Award and joined the cast of Original Sound. Fans will also see her return as Erin in Boston Blue, where she is not only reprising her character but also stepping behind the camera to direct an episode.
In addition, Moynahan has been cast in an upcoming football drama from acclaimed creator Dan Fogelman. Her career has long extended beyond Blue Bloods, with notable performances in films such as I, Robot and Coyote Ugly, as well as her fan-favorite role on Sex and the City.
