Is Bridget Moynahan Seriously Ill? The Facts Behind the Rumors

Even though summer is still in full swing, CBS is already looking ahead to the fall television season. After announcing the premiere date for Marshals season 2 and confirming the return of its NCIS lineup, the network has now unveiled its Friday night schedule, including the highly anticipated return of Boston Blue.

As part of a series of promotional spots airing during summer programming, including Big Brother season 28, CBS confirmed that Boston Blue season 2 will premiere on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, at 10/9c, joining a full night of returning procedural dramas.

Boston Blue, Fire Country, and Sheriff Country Return on Oct. 9

CBS’ Friday lineup kicks off with Fire Country season 5 at 8/7c, followed by Sheriff Country season 2 at 9/8c, before Boston Blue closes out the night at 10/9c.

All three premieres are part of CBS’ annual Premiere Week, which marks the return of many of the network’s biggest scripted hits.

The first teaser for Boston Blue season 2 features footage from the show’s debut season alongside a glimpse at what’s ahead. The new season picks up immediately after the dramatic season 1 finale, with Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) returning alongside Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), who is recovering after being shot in the line of duty while also coping with the aftermath of her boyfriend’s devastating car accident.

After debuting last fall, Boston Blue quickly established itself as one of CBS’ newest breakout dramas. Considering Blue Bloods spent 14 seasons as one of the network’s signature series, the spinoff’s early success came as little surprise. Now entering its second season, the police drama appears well-positioned to continue building on that momentum.

In addition to Wahlberg and Martin-Green, the series stars Ernie Hudson, Maggie Lawson, Gloria Reuben, Marcus Scribner, and Mika Amonsen.

CBS has not yet announced how many episodes Boston Blue season 2 will include, though many expect it to receive another full-season order after season 1’s 20-episode run.

Fire Country Returns With a Shorter Season

Procedural fans will have plenty to look forward to on Oct. 9, with three consecutive season premieres filling CBS’ Friday night schedule.

Unlike Boston Blue, Fire Country‘s episode count has already been confirmed. Season 5 will consist of 13 episodes, making it the show’s shortest full-season order since season 2, which was limited to 10 episodes because of the Hollywood strikes.

Despite the reduced episode count, the firefighter drama remains one of CBS’ strongest performers and will once again lead off the network’s Friday night lineup before handing off to Sheriff Country and Boston Blue.
