Henry Reagan Returns as Len Cariou Joins Boston Blue in New Midseason Trailer
The Reagan family is making its way to Boston.
CBS has unveiled the midseason trailer for Boston Blue, giving fans their first glimpse of Blue Bloods alum Len Cariou returning to the franchise. The 86-year-old actor appears in the spin-off as Henry Reagan, the retired NYPD commissioner and grandfather of Donnie Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan.
In the preview, Henry joins Danny, Detective Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), and District Attorney Mae Silver (Gloria Reuben) as they discuss a case. During the conversation, Henry asks, “So, what do we got?” prompting Danny to recognize where he inherited his investigative instincts.
The trailer also teases an intense continuation of the season following the dramatic midseason finale. The Boston police team faces new challenges, with scenes featuring an explosion, dangerous confrontations, and an emotional conversation between Lena and her younger brother, rookie officer Jonah Silver (Marcus Scribner).
“You wear that badge because you’re connected to something much bigger than yourself,” Lena tells Jonah as she encourages him through the struggles of his new career.
Wahlberg previously revealed Cariou’s return during a Television Critics Association panel, later confirming that another familiar face from Blue Bloods would also return. Bridget Moynahan is set to reprise her role as Erin Reagan, adding another link between the original series and the spin-off.
Cariou played Henry Reagan throughout all 14 seasons of Blue Bloods, making his appearance a special moment for longtime viewers.
Premiering in October 2025, Boston Blue follows Danny Reagan as he relocates from New York to Boston to be closer to his son Sean, a rookie officer with the Boston Police Department. There, Danny becomes part of the Silver family, another respected law enforcement household with strong similarities to the Reagan dynasty.
The spin-off has already welcomed several Blue Bloods favorites, including Moynahan and Marisa Ramirez, who returns as Detective Maria Baez, Danny’s former partner and close connection.
Although Blue Bloods ended its 14-season run in December 2024 after more than 14 years on television, the Reagan legacy continues through Boston Blue. The new series also features Mika Amonsen stepping into the role of Sean Reagan, replacing Andrew Terraciano.
Meanwhile, Tom Selleck has not yet appeared in the spin-off. The actor, who played NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan, previously said he was unsure whether he would return, explaining that he views Boston Blue as a separate series and that Frank Reagan’s journey may already have reached its conclusion.
