Tom Selleck Looks Toward the Western Frontier After His Time on BLUE BLOODS
After wrapping up his iconic run as Frank Reagan on BLUE BLOODS, Tom Selleck is looking ahead to a genre that has always held a special place in his career: the Western.
The veteran actor has shared his interest in returning to the world of horses, frontier stories, and classic Western storytelling. While audiences know Selleck best for legendary roles in MAGNUM, P.I. and BLUE BLOODS, he has also earned recognition as a Western performer through projects including THE SHADOW RIDERS, THE SACKETTS, and QUIGLEY DOWN UNDER.
In a 2024 interview with Parade, Selleck reflected on what he hopes to do next, admitting that a return to the Western genre remains high on his wish list.
“I wouldn’t say [offers] are pouring in, but maybe some people are thinking of me,” he said, adding that he would love the opportunity to “sit on a horse again.”
For Selleck, the appeal of Westerns goes beyond acting. The lifestyle and connection to the land have long been part of his personal interests as well. The actor lives on a working avocado ranch, where he continues to enjoy life away from the spotlight.
“We have a little avocado harvest every year,” he previously shared, reflecting his appreciation for ranch life and the outdoors.
Selleck’s history with the Western genre also connects him with longtime friend and fellow actor Sam Elliott, who later appeared in the hit Western drama 1883. Selleck praised Elliott’s work and spoke warmly about their longtime friendship.
“Sam was great in [1883]. Sam’s always great. We go way, way back. I love him dearly. I’d love to work with Sam,” Selleck said.
Whether a new Western project is on the horizon remains unknown, but fans of Selleck’s work know that the genre has always been a natural fit for him. After decades of memorable performances, the actor’s return to the saddle would mark a welcome new chapter in his remarkable career.
