Farewell to a Beloved Blue Bloods Star: The Reagan Table Won’t Be the Same

Boston Blue Reveals Lena Silver’s Biggest Family Secret Yet

Warning: Spoilers for Boston Blue Season 1, Episode 17.

Boston Blue delivered one of its most emotional episodes yet as Detective Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green) finally uncovered the truth about the father she’s spent her life wondering about.

After weeks of unanswered questions, Edwin (Ernie Hudson), preparing for surgery, urged Mae (Gloria Reuben) to stop hiding the truth. Mae finally confessed that Lena’s biological father is Chris Williams, portrayed by Dexter alum Erik King.

Mae explained that Chris was her first love before his criminal activities led to prison. She discovered she was pregnant shortly after his arrest and initially believed he never learned about Lena. The episode later revealed there was much more to the story. Chris eventually found out he had a daughter and wanted to be part of her life, but Mae prevented it for reasons that remain a mystery. Despite the distance, Chris has quietly watched Lena grow up over the years.

Now serving as the police chief of a town outside Boston, Chris unknowingly came close to meeting Lena. While visiting his department, Lena spent time with one of his detectives before learning another shocking truth: the detective’s wife, Kristina (Alisha Wainwright), is Chris’s daughter—and Lena’s previously unknown half-sister. Mae had known about Kristina all along, making the revelation even more complicated.

Gloria Reuben told TV Insider that Erik King was an ideal choice for the role. She said the show’s creative team wanted someone whose presence, personality, and emotional depth fit Chris’s complicated history. Having worked with King years ago, Reuben felt he brought exactly the right balance of strength, restraint, and authenticity to the character.

Reuben also hinted that viewers have only begun to discover the similarities between Chris and Lena, suggesting that future episodes will reveal even more about their shared traits.

The actress emphasized that Mae’s greatest fear isn’t Chris entering Lena’s life—it’s that years of withheld truths could permanently damage their mother-daughter relationship. With revelations about both Lena’s father and her half-sister now out in the open, Mae and Lena will have to confront the emotional fallout together.

Reuben also pointed to a larger theme running through the series: how family secrets are passed from one generation to the next. Just as Edwin and Jill kept painful truths hidden from Mae, Mae repeated that pattern by concealing Lena’s parentage. According to Reuben, these long-buried secrets reshape families when they’re finally exposed, forcing loved ones to confront difficult emotions, seek forgiveness, and begin the healing process.

As Boston Blue heads toward its season finale, Lena’s newfound family connections promise to create even deeper emotional challenges—and perhaps offer long-awaited opportunities for reconciliation.
