Despite the controversy surrounding Blue Bloods’ cancellation, Tom Selleck insists the story isn’t quite over yet.
The long
running CBS police drama has been on the air since 2010, but in December 2023, the network announced that Season 14 would mark its final chapter. The decision sparked an immediate and passionate response from fans and cast members alike, with petitions launched online and several stars led by Selleck publicly voicing their disappointment.
Now, the actor has offered a surprising clarification: according to Selleck, Blue Bloods will, in effect, have a Season 15 depending on how you define it.
Tom Selleck Promises a “Season 15”
As both the on-screen and off screen patriarch of Blue Bloods, Tom Selleck has been one of the show’s most vocal advocates. While CBS continues to refer to Season 14 as the end, Selleck has reframed the situation during a recent interview with Country Living.
“They announced [Season 14] was going to be our last season,” Selleck explained. “But what people don’t realize is, we’re going to do a 15th season. We’re doing a 10 show season, like all the other shows because of the strike, for the 14th season. And we’ll do eight shows in the fall the premiere of our 15th season.”
In other words, what CBS labels as “Season 14, Part 2” is, in Selleck’s view, essentially a standalone fifteenth season. While the distinction may be largely semantic, it underscores his refusal to accept the cancellation quietly.
Still Fighting for Blue Bloods
Even as he acknowledges the technical framing, Selleck continues to push back against CBS’s decision. The actor has made it clear that he believes the network is ending the show prematurely, especially given its continued strong performance.
“I think CBS will come to their senses,” Selleck said in another interview. “My hope is that CBS wakes up to the fact that we’re still winning the night on Friday and performing on Paramount Plus.”
Indeed, Blue Bloods remains one of CBS’s most reliable performers, consistently drawing solid ratings more than a decade into its run. Still, the network appears committed to closing the chapter, despite ongoing fan support and cast advocacy.
While some viewers agree the series should conclude on a high note, others remain hopeful that Selleck’s persistence and the show’s enduring popularity could yet lead to an unexpected reprieve.
For now, one thing is certain: Tom Selleck isn’t done fighting for Blue Bloods, and the Reagan family’s final goodbye may not be as clear cut as it first appeared.
