Trump announces new fighter jets for Selfridge base in Michigan and affirms it will stay open

President Donald Trump said Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Macomb County, Michigan, will remain open and announced new fighter jets to support operations.

The announcement was met with cheers and applause from the military personnel in the audience. The president is in Michigan for a rally later to make his first 100 days in office.

He said he stopped by the base “to lay to rest any doubts about Selfridge’s future and the vital role it will play in our national defense.”

Michigan’s Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, who was with Trump for the visit, has long advocated for a fighter mission at the base.
