Surprise Announcement: Donnie Wahlberg Confirms New Blue Bloods Spin-Off

Bridget Moynahan is officially stepping into the world of Boston Blue. She’ll appear in the premiere episode, reprising her role as Assistant District Attorney Erin Reagan alongside Donnie Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan. Wahlberg confirmed the reunion on Instagram, sharing a behind-the-scenes photo and writing:

“Reunited and it feels so good! So excited to have my dear friend and TV sister @bridgetmoynahan join me for a special guest appearance in the premiere episode of #BostonBlue!”

He also revealed that Moynahan isn’t just returning in front of the camera—she’ll be directing episodes of the spin-off as well.
“She’ll also be bringing her incredible directing talents to the show this season! More fun to come,” he teased.

Moynahan happily responded, “So excited to be part of this old and new family!!! @donniewahlberg @cbstv.”

Boston Blue follows Danny Reagan after he transfers to the Boston Police Department, where he teams up with Detective Lena Silver. The Silver family will take center stage in the new series, led by Ernie Hudson as Reverend Peters and Gloria Reuben as Mae Silver, Boston’s District Attorney and the family matriarch.

Mika Amonsen joins the cast as Danny’s son, Sean—taking over from Andrew Terraciano as the character begins his own journey into law enforcement.

While Boston Blue ushers in a new era, the Reagan legacy and the spirit of Blue Bloods are very much alive.
