Tom Selleck has spent decades as one of Hollywood’s most successful actors, yet he prefers life far from the spotlight. Instead of chasing fame, he chooses to spend his days on his ranch in Ventura, California, enjoying a quiet life with his family. Staying grounded isn’t easy in an industry built on attention and praise, but Selleck never allowed fame to consume him.
He and his wife of more than 30 years have lived on their California ranch for over three decades. Life as a rancher hasn’t always been simple, but Selleck once admitted that the hard work helped keep him sane.
A CAREER BUILT ON SUCCESS AND HUMILITY
Born in Detroit in January 1945, Selleck began acting in the late 1960s, landing small roles in movies and television. His career took off when he won the lead role on Magnum, P.I., playing private investigator Thomas Magnum for eight years and earning a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor.
After Magnum, P.I., Selleck appeared in The Closer, made memorable guest appearances on Friends, and went on to become a central star in Blue Bloods, where he has remained for 12 seasons.
Despite tremendous success, Selleck has always resisted the glitz of Hollywood. He has admitted that he didn’t fully understand what it meant to be a public figure until he experienced fame firsthand—and quickly realized he never wanted it to control his life.
In 1987, shortly after leaving Magnum, P.I., he married actress Jillie Joan Mack, his second and current wife. He often praises her joyful spirit and warm presence, saying she has the kind of energy that can brighten any room.
