The countdown is on for the Blue Bloods spinoff, Boston Blue, as filming ramps up for the Donnie Wahlberg
led series. While the rest of the world will have to wait until October 17 for the CBS premiere, a select audience will get an early look: on October 12, attendees at this year’s Mipcom Cannes will be treated to a screening of the pilot, followed by a Q&A with stars Wahlberg and Sonequa Martin Green.
In Boston Blue, Detective Danny Reagan leaves his New York family behind to join a Boston law enforcement team, where he encounters a new set of relatives who, like the Reagans, are deeply embedded in the city’s police and legal world. Danny’s new partner is Detective Lena Silver, the eldest daughter of a family with its own law and order legacy. Lena is the granddaughter of Reverend Peters, a longtime pillar of the community, and the daughter of District Attorney Mae Silver. She is also sister to Superintendent Sarah Silver and rookie patrol officer Jonah Silver.
The premiere also brings familiar faces from the Blue Bloods universe. Bridget Moynahan will reprise her role as Erin Reagan, Danny’s sister, ensuring continuity for longtime fans. Danny’s son, Sean, will also appear in the series; however, the role has been recast for the spin off. While Andrew Terraciano played Sean in the original series, Mika Amonsen steps into the role for Boston Blue.
With its mix of legacy characters and fresh faces, Boston Blue is poised to expand the Blue Bloods universe while carving out its own identity in Boston’s law enforcement landscape.
