Boston Blue has quickly become one of fall 2025’s biggest breakout hits, and CBS is wasting no time securing its future. The network has officially renewed the Blue Bloods spinoff for Season 2, confirming that the Friday-night drama will continue into the 2026–2027 television season.
CBS announced the renewal on Wednesday, December 3, alongside a second-season pickup for fellow new Friday drama Sheriff Country, a spinoff of Fire Country.
Starring Donnie Wahlberg, Boston Blue follows former NYPD detective Danny Reagan as he starts a new chapter in Boston alongside his son, Sean Reagan. As Danny adjusts to life in a new city, he forms close ties with the influential Silver family, a cornerstone of Boston’s law enforcement community. His new partner, Detective Lena Silver
, quickly becomes a key ally as the pair tackle complex cases across the city.
Only six episodes of Season 1 have aired so far, but the show’s strong performance made the renewal an easy decision for CBS.

When will Boston Blue Season 2 premiere?
CBS has confirmed that Season 2 will debut during the 2026–2027 television season.
Who’s returning for Season 2?
Along with Wahlberg, Martin Green, and Amonsen, the Season 2 cast is expected to include Gloria Reuben, Maggie Lawson, Marcus Scribner, and Ernie Hudson.
Blue Bloods alum Marisa Ramirez has appeared in three episodes as Detective Maria Baez, while Bridget Moynahan returned as Erin Reagan Boyle in the series premiere.
Notably, Boston Blue finally made Danny Reagan and Maria Baez an official couple, though their long distance relationship is already showing signs of strain.
When do new episodes air?
Boston Blue airs Fridays at 10/9c on CBS. The Season 1 midseason finale is scheduled for Friday, December 19. Following that episode, the series will take an extended break before returning on Friday, February 27.
The show premiered on October 17, less than a year after Blue Bloods concluded its run in December 2024. According to CBS, Boston Blue is averaging 8 million viewers in Nielsen Live + 7 multiplatform ratings, with streaming viewership up 87% compared to Blue Bloods last fall. The series has also consistently won its time slot on Fridays at 10/9c.
