Boston Blue has quickly become one of the most-watched new series of fall 2025, and CBS is wasting no time securing its future. The network has officially renewed the Blue Bloods spinoff for a second season. CBS announced the renewal on Wednesday, December 3, alongside another freshman Friday drama, Sheriff Country, a spinoff of Fire Country.
The series follows Donnie Wahlberg reprising his iconic role as Danny Reagan, who relocates to Boston with his son, Sean Reagan (Mika Amonsen), to start a new chapter. As they adjust to life in a new city, they form close ties with Boston’s influential law-enforcement family, the Silvers. Danny is partnered with Detective Lena Silver, played by Sonequa Martin-Green, and the show blends familiar Blue Bloods values with a fresh setting and new dynamics. Six episodes have aired so far, and with the renewal confirmed, viewers can expect plenty more stories ahead.
CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach praised the early success of the series in a statement, saying,

Who Is in the Boston Blue Season 2 Cast?
Season 2 is expected to bring back the core cast, including Donnie Wahlberg, Sonequa Martin-Green, and Mika Amonsen. The series also stars Gloria Reuben (Mae Silver), Maggie Lawson (Sarah Silver), Marcus Scribner (Jonah Silver), and Ernie Hudson (Reverend Edwin Peters).

Boston Blue airs Fridays at 10/9c on CBS. The Season 1 midseason finale is set to air on Friday, December 19. Following that episode, the series will take an extended break before returning on Friday, February 27.
The show premiered on October 17, nearly a year after Blue Bloods concluded its 14-season run in December 2024. According to CBS, Boston Blue is averaging 8 million viewers across Nielsen Live + 7 multiplatform viewing, with streaming up 87% compared to Blue Bloods during the same period last fall. The series has also consistently won its Friday 10/9c time slot.
