Boston Blue heats up in its second episode, serving gripping emotion and testing teammates like never before

Boston Blue returned this week with a new episode, “Teammates,” and the title couldn’t be more fitting. The second installment dives deep into partnerships, friendships, and the relationships that hold this team together.

The episode opens with one of the most important bonds in the series: Danny and his son, Sean. The two are enjoying a father-son day at Fenway Park when everything changes. Shots ring out, a body is discovered outside the stadium, and the Reagans shift instantly from spectators to responders. Danny orders Sean to call it in, and just like that, the week’s case begins.

The victim, Winston, had blown the whistle on a Ponzi scheme. He’d already turned state’s witness, which should have made the suspect list simple. Except there’s a twist Malakov, the man behind the scheme, has also been murdered. Suddenly, nothing about this case is straightforward.

Because Danny is still technically on loan, he’s able to work the investigation with Lena, and he actually seems to be enjoying his time in Boston. Their teamwork pays off as they uncover what went wrong: officers left their assigned posts. One left early to care for her child, and another who arrived late had been paid off by Harold Baca. But Baca wasn’t the only guilty party.

Things get messier when Winston’s wife, Naomi who also happens to be Baca’s sister is revealed to be involved. Furious that her husband turned state’s evidence and afraid of losing her lavish lifestyle, she chose betrayal over loyalty. It’s safe to say viewers will be rooting for a long prison sentence.

Danny and Lena handle the case with skill, and Sarah’s help adds an extra layer of good detective work. The episode definitely has shades of Blue Bloods especially in the way these partners click. Danny and Baez will always be iconic, but it’s exciting to see how Danny and Lena’s partnership develops.
