A New Chapter Unfolds: Donnie Wahlberg’s Blue Bloods Spinoff Moves Forward

The Blue Bloods Universe Grows: Donnie Wahlberg Teases Exciting Boston Blue Spinoff

This fall, the Blue Bloods universe expands with Boston Blue, and Donnie Wahlberg is already generating buzz. Reprising his role as former NYPD detective Danny Reagan, Wahlberg recently confirmed he’s in Toronto, where the spinoff will film. “A new day. A new city. A new opportunity. A new adventure. The same gratitude,” he wrote on Instagram. He also shared a photo from the first table read, seated next to co-star Sonequa Martin-Green, who plays Boston detective Lena Silver. “A new chapter,” he added.

Announced in February 2025, Boston Blue focuses on the Silvers, a Boston law enforcement family led by patriarch Reverend Peters. Lena Silver, Martin-Green’s character, is a rising star in the Boston PD and partners with Danny Reagan. The cast also features Maggie Lawson, Marcus Scribner, and Gloria Reuben.

Originally developed as a standalone series, CBS later integrated the show into the Blue Bloods universe, swapping out an LAPD character for Wahlberg’s Danny. While Danny is the only confirmed Reagan at this point, Wahlberg teased potential crossovers: “New York and Boston are really close.”

Danny’s move from New York remains a mystery, though Wahlberg hinted it’s linked to a “big spoiler.” He added, “As family-oriented as Danny is, he’s also always marched to the beat of his own drum.”

Production on Boston Blue is set to begin soon, marking an exciting new chapter for fans of the franchise.
