The Story Continues: Boston Blue Renewed for Season 2 on CBS

Boston Blue has quickly emerged as one of the most-watched new series of fall 2025, and CBS has officially rewarded that success with a Season 2 renewal. The network announced on Wednesday, December 3, that it has renewed the Blue Bloods spinoff alongside fellow freshman Friday drama Sheriff Country, a spinoff of Fire Country.

Starring Donnie Wahlberg, Boston Blue follows former NYPD detective Danny Reagan as he begins a new chapter in Boston alongside his son, Sean Reagan (Mika Amonsen). As they settle into their new lives, the Reagans form close ties with one of Boston’s most prominent law enforcement families, the Silvers. Danny is also partnered with Detective Lena Silver, portrayed by Sonequa Martin-Green, creating a new dynamic at the center of the series. Six episodes have aired so far, and CBS has confirmed that the story will continue.

“Two new shows on Friday night have become instant hits, with audiences quickly embracing Boston Blue and Sheriff Country across broadcast and streaming,” said Amy Reisenbach, President of CBS Entertainment. “These early renewals reflect the strength of character-driven storytelling, compelling narratives, and the exceptional talent on both sides of the camera that make these series stand out.”

According to CBS, Boston Blue Season 2 is slated to premiere during the 2026–2027 television season.

In addition to Wahlberg, Martin-Green, and Amonsen, the series stars Gloria Reuben as Mae Silver, Maggie Lawson as Sarah Silver, Marcus Scribner as Jonah Silver, and Ernie Hudson as Reverend Edwin Peters. Blue Bloods alum Marisa Ramirez has also appeared in three episodes so far, reprising her role as Detective Maria Baez, while Bridget Moynahan returned as Erin Reagan-Boyle in the series premiere.

The series has continued to develop the long-anticipated romantic relationship between Danny Reagan and Maria Baez, though the challenges of maintaining a long-distance relationship are beginning to surface.

Boston Blue airs Fridays at 10/9c on CBS. The Season 1 midseason finale is scheduled for Friday, December 19, after which the series will go on hiatus. Following the break, new episodes will return on Friday, February 27.

The show premiered on October 17, following the Blue Bloods series finale, which aired in December 2024. According to CBS, Boston Blue is averaging approximately 8 million viewers in Nielsen Live + 7 across multiplatform viewing. Streaming performance alone is up 87 percent compared to Blue Bloods during the same period last fall, and the series has consistently won its Friday 10/9c time slot.
