Blue Bloods spin-off Boston Blue has already secured a second-season renewal just weeks after its debut. The CBS drama follows former NYPD detective Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) as he transfers to the Boston Police Department and begins a new chapter in his law-enforcement career.
Upon his arrival, Danny is partnered with Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), a highly regarded rising star and the eldest daughter of one of Boston’s most influential police families. Their dynamic partnership sets the tone for a series filled with fresh conflicts, new cases, and evolving personal relationships.
Boston Blue premiered on October 17 of this year, arriving less than a year after the original Blue Bloods led by Tom Selleck wrapped its 14-season run. Fortunately for CBS, the new drama has been an immediate success, generating impressive ratings and earning an early renewal for the 2026–2027 season, according to The Express.
The announcement came alongside the renewal of another new CBS crime drama, Sheriff Country, starring Morena Baccarin of Deadpool fame. Both series launched on the same night and quickly captured strong viewership.
Boston Blue has drawn approximately 8 million viewers across live broadcasts and week-long streaming, making it one of CBS’s most-watched new entries. The network also reported an 87 percent spike in streaming figures compared to the previous television season.
Amy Reisenbach, President of CBS Entertainment, praised the early success, saying:
“Two new shows on Friday night have become instant hits, with audiences quickly embracing Boston Blue and Sheriff Country across broadcast and streaming. These early renewals reflect the power of character-driven storytelling, compelling narratives, and the exceptional talent on both sides of the camera.”
The spin-off also features returning faces from Blue Bloods. Danny’s son, Sean Reagan (Mika Amonsen), joins him in Boston after an NYPD recruitment freeze. Familiar characters including Erin Reagan (Bridget Moynahan) and Danny’s longtime partner and love interest Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) have also appeared, delighting long-time fans.
Viewers were quick to celebrate the renewal on social media.
One excited X user wrote: “I cannot express how happy this made me!!! #BostonBlue renewed for season 2! Let’s goooo!!”
Another added: “Happy that Boston Blue got a season 2! I’ve enjoyed it so far.”
The excitement continued on Reddit, where fans shared their enthusiasm:
“Very happy with this news. I really enjoy this show,” one commenter said.
Another wrote: “I didn’t have high hopes, but I find it surprisingly entertaining. I like his relationship with Sonequa and the dynamics with her family… Still working out some rough edges, but it’s enjoyable.”
While Boston Blue has yet to receive an official UK release date, it will likely follow in the footsteps of Blue Bloods, which aired on Sky Witness and NOW making a 2026 UK debut probable.
