Andrew Terraciano played Sean Reagan for all 14 seasons of Blue Bloods, but the character was recast for the spinoff Boston Blue. While Terraciano hasn’t spoken publicly about the change, the new Sean
actor Mika Amonsen has been open about stepping into the role. Meanwhile, fans are wondering what Terraciano is up to now and whether his brother Tony, who played Jack Reagan, might appear in the new series.
Where Is Andrew Terraciano Now?
Viewers watched real life brothers Tony and Andrew Terraciano grow up on Blue Bloods as Danny Reagan’s sons, Jack and Sean. But when Danny got his own spinoff, Boston Blue, Sean was recast with newcomer Mika Amonsen.
Terraciano has not commented on the casting shift, but he’s been busy off screen.
In May 2025, the actor graduated from New York University, celebrating with family including brother Tony before traveling together, according to his Instagram. His most recent social media post, a set of Halloween photos, went up on November 1.
Outside of Blue Bloods, the now 22 year old has worked on two short films:
-
Rogue Assistant (2014), in which he acted
-
A First Step Into Darkness (2022), a project he both wrote and starred in
As of now, those remain the only credits on his IMDb page.
Why Was Sean Reagan Recast on Boston Blue?
Boston Blue follows Danny and Sean Reagan as they build new lives in Boston. Sean moved first to escape the pressure of the Reagan legacy and pursue his own policing career. After he was seriously injured saving civilians off-duty, Danny relocated to support him and wound up staying.
In Boston, Danny works with Detective Lena Silver, and the Reagans have grown close to the Silver family. Weekly gatherings Shabbat dinners rather than Sunday dinners keep the spirit of the original show alive.
Series co-creators Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis explained to TV Insider why they chose to recast Sean.
“We wanted a slightly different version of Sean,” Margolis said. “We wanted a character that feels familiar someone who resembles the boy the audience watched grow up. But he’s made life changes and joined the police force, really picking up that family mantle.”
They also noted that they wanted to “join the story in progress,” starting with a Sean who had already undergone significant growth.
How Mika Amonsen Feels About the Backlash
Boston Blue has aired six episodes so far, and the recasting has stirred mixed reactions. Amonsen told Us Weekly he’s seen criticism, but also plenty of encouragement.
“There’s been some negativity, for sure,” he admitted. “But under those posts, there are fans rallying for Sean and saying they’ve really enjoyed my version of the character.”
He added that many viewers have embraced his take on Sean:
“They really enjoy the show, and they love where it’s going in terms of Sean. That makes me happy.”
Will Jack Reagan Return in Boston Blue?
There’s currently no confirmation that Jack Reagan will appear in the spinoff. However, it seems unlikely the show will ignore Danny’s older son forever.
Donnie Wahlberg has teased that more Blue Bloods veterans could pop up Bridget Moynahan and Marisa Ramirez already have. But because Sean was recast, it’s reasonable to assume the series might recast Jack as well, especially since the original actors were real-life siblings.
Fans will have to wait and see if Jack eventually reenters the picture and in what form.
