Boston Blue Is Bringing the Reagan Family Back Together — Here’s Which Blue Bloods Stars Have Appeared

When Boston Blue was first announced, Blue Bloods fans immediately began wondering whether their favorite Reagan family members would eventually reunite with Donnie Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan.

Wahlberg teased that possibility without revealing too much. In a June interview with Fox News Digital, he suggested that although Danny would be entering a new world in Boston, he would never truly be separated from his family.

“Now, it’s just Danny going to this new world, but I can’t say a lot about it — but I could say, if he’s a Reagan, it will never be just Danny,” Wahlberg said. “There’ll always be a Reagan a phone call away.”

That comment proved especially intriguing for longtime viewers.

Blue Bloods ran for 14 seasons on CBS before ending in December 2024. The series centered on NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan, played by Tom Selleck, and his children — Detective Danny Reagan, portrayed by Wahlberg; ADA Erin Reagan, played by Bridget Moynahan; and NYPD officer Jamie Reagan, played by Will Estes.

The Reagan family also included Frank’s father, former commissioner Henry Reagan, portrayed by Len Cariou, along with Frank’s grandchildren.

With Boston Blue moving the story from New York to Boston, the new series has created opportunities to keep the Reagan family connection alive.

Why Danny Reagan Went to Boston

Boston Blue follows Danny after he leaves New York and heads to Boston when his youngest son, Sean Reagan, played by Mika Amonsen, is injured in a fire.

Sean is living in Boston and working as a police officer after a hiring freeze in New York prevented him from following the Reagan family’s law-enforcement tradition in the Big Apple.

Although Danny is now separated from most of his family geographically, the Reagans remain an important part of his life.

And, as fans have already discovered, being in Boston does not necessarily mean Danny is completely on his own.

Marisa Ramirez Returns as Maria Baez

One of the first familiar faces to appear in Boston Blue was Marisa Ramirez, who reprised her role as Maria Baez during the Season 1 premiere.

Her appearance was especially significant because Baez’s relationship with Danny had taken an important step during the Blue Bloods finale.

During the premiere, viewers discovered that Danny and Baez had officially become a couple.

The episode opened with a playful scene between the two characters, confirming that their relationship had moved beyond friendship. But their quiet moment was quickly interrupted when Danny received a call informing him that Sean had been hospitalized in Boston.

Danny immediately left to be with his son.

The appearance gave fans a chance to see where Danny and Baez’s relationship stood after Blue Bloods ended while also providing an emotional connection between the original series and its spinoff.

Bridget Moynahan Returns as Erin Reagan

Danny wasn’t the only Reagan to make the trip to Boston.

After learning that Sean had been injured in the fire and had not yet regained consciousness, Erin Reagan arrived to support her brother and nephew.

Her appearance immediately brought back the familiar sibling dynamic that Blue Bloods fans had grown accustomed to seeing.

When Danny pointed out that he had specifically said nobody needed to come, Erin responded with the kind of sibling humor viewers would expect from the longtime Reagan duo.

Erin made it clear that she was staying until she knew Danny was okay.

She later remained with her brother as Danny became involved with the Silver family and worked alongside Detective Lena Silver, played by Sonequa Martin-Green, to determine who was responsible for the fire that injured Sean.

The episode ultimately ended with Danny and Erin sharing a traditional Reagan Sunday dinner at the hospital.

Then, in an emotional moment, Sean finally opened his eyes.

Len Cariou Is Set to Return as Henry Reagan

The Reagan family reunion does not stop with Danny, Baez and Erin.

Wahlberg confirmed during a Television Critics Association panel in January 2026 that Len Cariou would reprise his role as Henry Reagan in an episode of Boston Blue during Season 1.

Cariou’s return is particularly meaningful because Henry served as the elder statesman of the Reagan family throughout Blue Bloods. As Frank’s father and the grandfather of Danny, Erin and Jamie, Henry frequently provided wisdom and perspective during the family’s most difficult moments.

His appearance will give Boston Blue another direct connection to the original series while allowing fans to see how the Reagan family continues to influence Danny’s new life in Boston.

More Reagans Could Still Be on the Way

From the beginning, Wahlberg has suggested that Danny’s move to Boston does not mean the Reagan family has disappeared from his story.

The appearances from Baez and Erin have already demonstrated how the spinoff can bring familiar characters into its new setting without losing its own identity.

Henry’s return adds another layer to that connection.

For fans, the biggest question now is whether other members of the Reagan family could eventually make their way to Boston as well.

Jamie Reagan remains an obvious possibility, particularly given his close relationship with Danny. Frank Reagan would also be a major addition if Tom Selleck ever decided to revisit the role.

For now, however, Boston Blue is gradually building its own world while keeping the Reagan family close.

And if Wahlberg’s earlier comments are any indication, Danny may be in Boston — but he will never be too far away from the family that has defined his story for more than a decade.
