Tom Selleck Reveals ‘Blue Bloods’ Cast Took 25% Pay Cut to Help Save the Show
Tom Selleck has revealed that the cast of Blue Bloods agreed to take a 25 percent pay cut in an effort to keep the long-running CBS police drama on the air before the network ultimately canceled the series.
Selleck, 81, who portrayed New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan throughout the show’s run, shared the revelation during an appearance on Ted Danson’s podcast, Where Everybody Knows Your Name. He described Blue Bloods as a “labor of love” for everyone involved.
According to Selleck, the cost-cutting effort came during the show’s final stretch. He recalled that at the cast’s last dinner together, everyone wanted to return for another season. The actors had already agreed to reduced salaries and made other sacrifices in hopes of keeping the production going.
Selleck said the willingness of the entire cast to make such concessions was unusual for a series that had been on the air for so long.
The actor also questioned CBS’ decision to end the show, pointing to its continued popularity. He noted that Blue Bloods ranked sixth among the top 100 broadcast television programs during its 15th season.
CBS officially canceled Blue Bloods in 2023, with the series airing its final episode in 2024.
