Get the tissues ready Episode 4 of Boston Blue is shaping up to be the season’s first real tearjerker.

Boston Blue Season 1, Episode 4 might be the first true tearjerker of the Blue Bloods spinoff.

It feels strange to be excited for an episode that’s likely to break our hearts, but everything about this one looks powerful. Danny will join the Silvers for a memorial prayer honoring their late father, and it’s hard not to wonder whether the moment will stir memories of Joe and Linda as well.

Jewish memorial customs don’t often make it into primetime TV, and as someone deeply familiar with them, seeing this ritual depicted on a national stage means more than I can say. I’ve always appreciated watching the Reagans say grace and share Catholic traditions it’s meaningful to learn about and experience other forms of faith but there’s something entirely different about seeing your own practices, especially when they’re rarely represented.

The Silvers aren’t Orthodox or Hasidic, which are the Jewish communities TV tends to focus on. Instead, they’ll light a yahrzeit candle and likely recite the Mourners’ Kaddish, honoring their father in a way that feels authentic and widely relatable. Traditionally this happens on the Hebrew calendar anniversary of a loved one’s passing, not the secular date, so it’ll be interesting to see whether Boston Blue incorporates that detail.

Beyond the cultural significance, this episode promises emotional depth. It could offer more insight into the Silvers’ family history and more importantly, give Danny a heartfelt way to connect with them through shared loss.
