‘Boston Blue’ Brings Together Beloved Blue Bloods Characters Once Again

The end of CBS’s Blue Bloods after 14 seasons left a Reagan-sized hole in fans’ hearts. The weekly Sunday family dinners, the moral debates between Frank and his children, and the unshakable bond between Detective Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) and Detective Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) suddenly disappeared from viewers’ screens.

But the Reagan legacy isn’t over. The new universe-expansion series, BOSTON BLUE, starring Donnie Wahlberg as Danny Reagan, proves that you can take the detective out of New York, but you can’t remove him from the Blue Bloods world. The show follows Danny as he adjusts to life in the Boston Police Department and becomes part of the Silver family of law enforcement. Even with the new setting and characters, the showrunners have made it clear: Danny’s New York roots still matter.

The biggest news electrifying the fandom is that two major Blue Bloods favorites have already been worked into the BOSTON BLUE storyline Erin Reagan and, most importantly, Maria Baez.

Danny’s reunion with Baez is the ultimate payoff to more than a decade of fan anticipation. It promises to continue the romantic storyline left hanging in the Blue Bloods finale and reinforces that the bonds formed in the NYPD are unbreakable. From day one, Danny and Baez’s partnership was a highlight of the series. What began as a tough, argumentative working relationship grew into a deep friendship and finally blossomed into romance in the final episode of the original show.
