The Blue Bloods family reunion continues on Boston Blue, with more familiar faces set to join Donnie Wahlberg’s new series.
During a virtual panel hosted by the Television Critics Association, Wahlberg revealed that two beloved Reagan family members will be making guest appearances. “Grandpa Reagan’s going to be showing up, and Erin’s going to show up again,” he shared. TVLine later confirmed that Len Cariou will return as Henry Reagan, while Bridget Moynahan will reprise her role as Erin Reagan after appearing in the series premiere.
Boston Blue follows Danny Reagan as he relocates to Boston to be closer to his son, Sean. The character is now portrayed by Mika Amonsen, taking over the role previously played by Andrew Terraciano in Blue Bloods.
Wahlberg praised Amonsen’s performance, noting that stepping into an established role comes with unique challenges. He explained that their shared experience of carrying forward familiar characters helped them form a strong connection, something he believes audiences will notice on screen.
The actor also reflected on how Danny’s storyline mirrors his own life. Speaking with People, Wahlberg said his adult sons—Xavier, Elijah, and Evan—inspired his perspective on the father-son relationship featured in the series. He recalled that one of his sons recently encouraged him to move closer, making Danny’s decision to leave New York for Boston feel especially authentic.
Although fans continue to hope for a reunion with Tom Selleck, the longtime star has suggested he isn’t planning to return as Frank Reagan. In a recent interview with Hour Detroit, Selleck said he sees Boston Blue as its own series and believes his role is to preserve the legacy of Blue Bloods rather than continue portraying Frank.
Even without Selleck, Boston Blue is shaping up to feature plenty of familiar faces, giving longtime Blue Bloods viewers more Reagan family reunions to look forward to.
