The story of Noelia Castillo Ramos, the 25-year-old Spanish woman who died by legal euthanasia earlier this year following a lengthy court battle, has taken a new turn after her mother revealed that she left behind a private journal detailing alleged sexual assaults.
According to her mother, Yolanda Ramos, the journal has been handed to prosecutors in the hope that it will help identify those Noelia accused of assaulting her and support efforts to bring those responsible to justice.
Noelia’s case attracted international attention after she successfully fought for the right to access euthanasia under Spain’s assisted dying laws. She became paraplegic after a suicide attempt in 2022, which she said followed multiple alleged sexual assaults. Before her death by euthanasia in March 2026, Noelia spoke publicly about living with severe physical pain and lasting psychological trauma.
Despite legal challenges brought by her parents, Spanish courts ultimately upheld her request, allowing the procedure to proceed.
Ramos now says the handwritten diary contains detailed accounts of the alleged assaults. Complaints submitted to prosecutors claim the journal describes multiple incidents, including one involving a former partner and another in which Noelia alleged she was drugged before being sexually assaulted by several men.
Because the allegations were not formally investigated at the time, the family hopes the newly submitted diary will provide investigators with enough information to identify those involved and reopen the cases.
According to Ramos, Noelia handed her the diary on the day she died.
The Spanish Foundation of Christian Lawyers, which is representing Ramos, released excerpts from the diary alongside a statement saying: “Noelia wrote this before she died. She didn’t want the truth to die with her, so she wrote about who raped her, how it happened, and how those aggressions destroyed her life.
“Today, those writings are in the hands of the prosecutor’s office, because even after her death, justice can still be done. Share this video, so that no one can say tomorrow that they didn’t know.”
In a video explaining her decision to file complaints, Ramos said: “I am the mother of Noelia Castillo. I have decided to report the men who caused so much harm to my daughter because I believe this is what she wanted. Noelia spoke publicly about the rapes on television.
“On the same day she died, she gave me her diary. When I read it, I understood many things. I feel my daughter wanted the whole truth to come to light one day. That is why I have gone to the prosecutor’s office. I cannot stand by and do nothing.
“My daughter will not be returned to me. I am doing this for her, and also for other girls who have gone through the same thing but never reported it. I simply want justice. It is the only thing I can do for my daughter, Noelia Castillo, so that she is never forgotten. Thank you for listening to me.”
Previous reports alleged that Noelia was sexually assaulted on two separate occasions — first by a former boyfriend and later by three men while she was living in a state-run care facility in 2022.
Days after the second alleged assault, Noelia attempted to end her life by jumping from a fifth-floor window. She survived the fall but was left paralysed from the waist down.
Noelia first applied for euthanasia more than a year before her death, but the process was delayed by a prolonged legal challenge led by her father, Geronimo Castillo.
In an interview with Y Ahora Sonsoles, she said: “My father saw me fall and couldn’t do anything. But after everything he’s done, I don’t feel sorry for him anymore. He hasn’t respected my decision and he never will.”
In one of her final television appearances, Noelia also addressed the disagreement within her family over her decision to seek euthanasia.
“None of my family is in favour of euthanasia, obviously, because I’m another pillar of the family,” she said. “But what about the pain that I’ve suffered all of these years?”
She added: “The happiness of a father or a mother should not supersede the happiness of a daughter.”
