Marcus Scribner Opens Up About Jonah Silver’s Journey in Boston Blue
Marcus Scribner believes his Boston Blue character, Jonah Silver, shares many traits with a young Danny Reagan. Fearless, impulsive, and always eager to take action, Jonah often relies on instinct rather than patience—a quality that frequently gets him into dangerous situations.
That mindset was on full display in Episode 10, when Jonah’s relentless pursuit of the truth nearly cost him his life. After uncovering new information about his father Ben Silver’s murder, Jonah found himself targeted by the real killer. Fortunately, fellow rookie officer Sean Reagan arrived just in time to save him, strengthening the bond between the two partners.
Scribner explained that while Jonah deeply appreciates Sean’s loyalty, he also feels guilty that his friend had to put himself in harm’s way. Jonah tends to believe he can take risks himself but expects others to follow the rules, making Sean’s decision to protect him both meaningful and difficult to accept.
The actor also discussed how Jonah continues to struggle with the loss of his father. Although his sisters, Lena and Sarah, are grieving just as deeply, they cope in very different ways. While they believe in allowing the justice system to run its course, Jonah channels his pain into action, convinced that moving faster is the only way to find justice. His frustration often spills over onto the people closest to him, not because he doubts their love, but because he feels powerless to change what happened.
Scribner noted that grief affects everyone differently, comparing Jonah’s emotional journey to the unpredictable way many people process loss. Sometimes emotions remain buried for weeks before suddenly surfacing, while Jonah experiences his grief much more intensely and immediately, driving him to act before thinking through the consequences.
Despite witnessing the dangers of police work firsthand, Jonah never questions his decision to wear the badge. Scribner says his character is motivated by a genuine desire to protect others rather than chase criminals or seek recognition. Whether running into a burning building or risking his own safety during an investigation, Jonah is determined to make a positive difference while proving that he is more than the legacy of the Silver family.
When discussing Jonah’s relationship with his grandfather, Reverend Peters, portrayed by Ernie Hudson, Scribner described him as a trusted mentor and guiding presence rather than a replacement for Jonah’s late father. While Reverend Peters offers wisdom, support, and stability, Jonah is still struggling to accept that his father is truly gone—a loss that continues to shape every decision he makes.
Looking ahead, Scribner also teased exciting moments still to come this season, including an appearance by Blue Bloods veteran Len Cariou and an episode directed by Bridget Moynahan, promising longtime fans even more connections between the beloved franchise and its new spinoff.
