Eric Christian Olsen Reveals He Nearly Missed Out on His Iconic NCIS: Los Angeles Role
Before becoming one of the most beloved characters on NCIS: Los Angeles, Eric Christian Olsen almost didn’t land the role of Marty Deeks.
The actor recently revealed that when he first auditioned, CBS executives weren’t convinced he was the right fit for the character. Although series creator Shane Brennan immediately recognized Olsen’s potential and believed he was the perfect choice, network executives reportedly wanted to continue searching for other actors.
Brennan remained confident in his decision and continued to champion Olsen for the role. His persistence ultimately paid off, with Olsen joining the cast and bringing Marty Deeks to life.
Over the years, Deeks became a fan favorite thanks to Olsen’s charm, humor, and emotional performances. His on-screen partnership and eventual romance with Daniela Ruah’s character, Kensi Blye, evolved into one of the series’ most popular storylines, helping establish Deeks as one of the standout characters in the NCIS franchise.
Looking back, it’s hard to imagine NCIS: Los Angeles without Olsen, whose performance proved that Brennan’s instincts were right from the very beginning.
