Even though summer is far from over, CBS is already building excitement for its fall television lineup. After announcing the premiere date for Marshals season 2 and confirming the return of its NCIS franchise, the network has now locked in the schedule for its popular Friday night dramas.
During summer broadcasts, including Big Brother season 28, CBS began airing new promotional spots revealing the premiere dates for several of its most anticipated scripted series. Among them is Boston Blue season 2, which premieres Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, at 10/9c, returning to anchor the network’s Friday lineup.
Boston Blue, Fire Country, and Sheriff Country return on Oct. 9
The Friday night lineup kicks off with Fire Country season 5 at 8/7c, followed by Sheriff Country season 2 at 9/8c, before Boston Blue season 2 closes out the evening at 10/9c. All three shows are part of CBS’ Premiere Week, which features the season debuts of many of the network’s biggest returning hits and newest favorites.
The first Boston Blue season 2 teaser combines footage from the debut season with a preview of what’s ahead. The new season picks up after the dramatic season 1 finale, with Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) returning alongside Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), who is recovering after being shot in the line of duty while also dealing with the uncertainty surrounding her boyfriend following a serious car accident.
Following its successful debut last fall, Boston Blue quickly established itself as a key part of CBS’ primetime lineup. That success wasn’t entirely surprising, considering it serves as the successor to Blue Bloods, one of the network’s most successful dramas during its 14-season run. With strong ratings and a loyal audience, the series appears well-positioned for another successful season.
In addition to Wahlberg and Martin-Green, the cast includes Ernie Hudson, Maggie Lawson, Gloria Reuben, Marcus Scribner, and Mika Amonsen.
CBS has not yet confirmed how many episodes Boston Blue season 2 will include, though it’s widely expected to receive another full-season order after season 1’s 20-episode run. Likewise, the network has yet to reveal whether Sheriff Country season 2 will receive a shortened 13-episode order like Fire Country or return with a full-season pickup.
What is certain, however, is that CBS’ Friday night lineup officially returns on Friday, Oct. 9, giving fans another reason to look forward to the start of the fall TV season.
